Where is the best vacation spot to travel to in October?

May 15, 2010 - 7:18 pm 3 Comments

My long time boyfriend and I are planning on going on our first vacation together. I will be 19 by the time of the trip and he will be 20. Since both our birthdays are in October, we decided to go on a vacation together. I was just wondering where the best vacation spot would be, weather-wise, and a good environment for a young couple. Also, we would be leaving from Toronto Pearson Airport.

It’s pretty nice here in Italy in October and not so crowded as the summer months. There are a lot of good festivals in Italy then including the Eurochocolate Festival in Perugia – the first Sunday features a contest of professional sculptors creating works of art from big blocks of chocolate, the shavings go to the crowd, the Duck Festival in San Miniato in Tuscany (the duck races are unique), Bardolino Wine Festival on Garda Lake, the Rice Festival in Isola della Scala just south of Verona, the Bologna City of Food festival, the Verdi festival in Parma, and many others.

Of course, all the usual tourist attractions are available too.

Vacation destination? Where is the best place in America to travel for a GREAT Weekend?

May 12, 2010 - 6:42 pm 6 Comments

I’m taking this vacation alone (maybe a couple of the fella’s if they clear it with the wife). I’ve excluded NY and Las Vegas becuase I’ll be going to those places in the upcomming months. This is my first seperate vacation (without the wifey) and I’d like to go someplace with some seriously good nightlife or Great rollercosters.

Things I like to do on Vacation…

Drink
Club (Hip Hop or Mixed)
Stay out late
Gamble (but somewhere that has other attractions or I may exceed my budget)

or

Ride Roller coaster (If there are any theme parks open in April I’d go visist if they have an exceptional roller coaster.

I know some of you have had exceptional Vacations and if you could recommend a place I’d apareciate it, thank you.
dcgirl GREAT answer, but I forgot to include, I’m from Houston so I go to New Orleans about once every 3 month, I’ve been so much It wouldn’t be worth my first solo vaction. Thanks for the answer though if I had never been you’d definatly have got "Best Answer"…

To every one else….

I’ve excluded New Orleans too… I go there too much already.

New Orleans… you can do all of this except ride roller coasters. There’s a couple of casinos just steps from the French Quarter, lots of clubs of all sorts, there’s no last call, and it is a fun, fun, fun place! New Orleans is open for business post-Katrina and if you stick to the tourist areas you would hardly notice a hurricane had even been there. But the folks who work there could sure use your tip money, and will be very appreciative. I was there a few months ago, and I got stellar service everywhere I went. Had a blast!

What are some good vacation rental sites for booking a vacation property?

May 8, 2010 - 1:26 am 3 Comments

My wife and I just retired and are planning a U.S. vacation tour. We are wanting to know the best way to book vacation rentals throughout our journey. We haven’t picked any states to travel to yet, but would like to visit most if not all of them. In the past we have used KeyVacationRentals.com, but just wanted to see what others are out there. We also would like to only book from vacation rental site. Thanks for your suggestions!

I’ve been using Owner Direct Vacation Rentals for several years now, and I’ve always had a great experience both in finding the perfect place(s) to stay, and with their customer service reps… they’re the greatest!

I’d have a look around at Owner Direct Vacation Rentals http://www.ownerdirect.com and just start picking places along your route.

It sounds like a great way to plan a vacation! I’ve actually done that myself, on a smaller level, with just two different places lined up one after the other, and it was just great. It’s so much nicer arriving at a vacation home, than it is arriving at a hotel… so much more relaxing.

Hope this helps!

What happens to vacation time when you are switched to salary after working at a company for 3 years?

May 5, 2010 - 4:21 pm 4 Comments

I live in Alberta, and I have been working at my job for 3 and a half years, and for that time I have been an hourly pay employee. I just took a vacation and got paid vacation pay, and then I was informed they were switching me to salary. I got a call from my accountant telling me that I can’t have a vacation, until September 27th, 2008 (one year from now, so a whole year without a vacation) because I have to be on salary for a year before I earn it. Is this right? Even though I’ve been there, in the same position for 3 years?
After reading a reply, I figured I would add that the last vacation I took was 5 days, and the only vacation I took this year when we are allowed 2 weeks.

If that company was your sole source of income for 3 years and they provided the tools and managed your activities and your time then you are an employee and should be treated as such. That’s a federal description from CRA.
Did your employer remit EI, CPP and income tax on your behalf?
Either way you should negotiate holidays before signing the new agreement.
According to Alberta employment standards you are eligible for 2 weeks paid vacation every year. See link below.

Lyrics:

I know a girl who’s obsessed with a guy
She talks for hours and still tomorrow
She’ll call again and when he thinks that this could be the end,
She calls again

At six in the morning she waits at the door
He tells her to leave now but still tomorrow she’ll be there again
She won’t let go

Can’t you just go somewhere on vacation?
I could book your flight
And pack your bags if you want
A one way ticket out of my life
Watching you fly away
I never liked you

She doesn’t care if he tries to ignore
He runs away but still she follows
she’ll try again

She likes to think she’ll get him in the end
Yeah

Can’t you just go somewhere on vacation?
I could book your flight
And pack your bags
If you want
A one way ticket out of my life
Watching you fly away
I never liked you
I never wanted you
I never liked you
I never wanted you, whoa

Cant you just go somewhere on vacation?
I could book your flight
And pack your bags
If you want
A one way ticket out of my life
Watching you fly away
I never liked you
I never wanted you
I never liked you
Im not in love with you!

Vacation ideas for boy recovering from surgery on February and April school vacation week?

May 3, 2010 - 2:08 pm 2 Comments

I am planning for 2 vacations, one in February and one in April, both on school vacation weeks.
It is going to be 3 adults and my 15 yo son who is recovering from big orthopedic surgery (he’ll be all healed by then), so is important for him to go somewhere warm, sunny and fun.
We’ve been to Mexico already so we are looking for other destinations now.
Do you know of any places where we can have all inclusive with more activities, excursions and night life nearby?

Barbados is a beautiful island. Lots of lovely scenery and so much to do, morning noon and night. In Barbados you can never get bored because there is something for every type of person to take part in. Barbados is also romatic. Activites for kids and older ones…you will not regret visiting Barbados! The island has great beaches and is wonderful for shopping too! There is great night life in Barbados!!

As it relates to accommodation, there is a lovely resort in Barbados called The Barbados Beach Club. This is along the South Coast and has a lovely beach view.

The Barbados Beach Club is an all inclusive resort which offers breakfast, lunch, after noon tea, dinner, unlimited drinks, an exercise room (gym), pool aerobics, snorkeling, scuba diving lessons, windsurfing, Hobie cat cruises, beach volley ball, games room, free shuttle service to and from the main town and soooo much more. The activities that are included in this all-inclusive package are astounding. This hotel is located about 5 minutes from St.Lawrence Gap which has ALOT of night life in it…you will definitly find somewhere to go in that gap…for all ages too!

The Barbados beach club has 3 restaurants on site and one of them is buffet the other two are a la carte. The two a la carte are seafood and the other is Italian.

VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

May 3, 2010 - 1:26 pm 5 Comments

my friends and I want to go on a trip before college and we want to go somewhere where we’ll have fun and make good memories but still not spend that much money
p.s. could you give me an estimate of the cost because we’re planning this 3 years ahead of time so we can now how much money to save and make
p.s. we want to stay in state and not go to g.a.(thats where i live) and below or around 1000 please
(that includes hotel flight and a car)

If you want a good-quality memory-making trip, I suggest the La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla, California. I’ve been there before and I can promise that you will not be dissapointed. I can’t get to prices right now, but fish around their website and see if you like it.

I also suggest the Lago Mar Resort & Club in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I went there for spring break of ‘08 and you will be so satisfied. I think that per night, it’s somewhere in the $300s but I could be wrong. Surf their website and see what you can find.
